When CASTE beats talent !!

We want Equality they say,  and then Demand "Reservations !"

So many Hypcrites all Around !!

Social Media, now a days, is the primary way to convey one's views over various matters going around and i'm using it pretty well for that purpose.
This blog of mine has always been a great platform to do so , and hence I'm here again.

Like lakhs of other candidates , I'm also a govt job Seeker. From past few months I've  been giving exams for the same but success is yet a long way perhaps.
Getting a govt job in India is not that easy , you know !! You have to pass a lot of "stages" to get it . And if you're a "General Category" student, you have to be "super good" at everything because  "good" is just not enough when you're living in India with a tag of "General Category".

I'm not an exceptional student in studies, I'm just "Good". And if I would have been asked this a few months ago, I would have answered that I'm an "intelligent" student but I can't , now !
Why ? Because its only in these past few months that I had a direct encounter with "The great Indian Reservation System" where your "intelligency is measured according to your caste" !
In Govt exams, you dont just compete with other Candidates but you compete with their "Castes" as well. You dont have to just score better than others, but you have to "compensate" too for being from a General Caste and this compensation  can cost you "years" of hardwork and patience !!

Frankly Speaking, it doesn't matter how long it takes, bcoz at the end when you make it, its WORTH it but what matters and what "bothers" me is that why with the same ability (infact, much more ability in many cases ) it takes  years for one candidate to crack an exam while some other candidate  is cracking it in the very first attempt ?
All this in name of equality ? Really ? And where is that ?

My first attempt for a govt exam was that of SBI CLERK 2016, and it went pretty well . My hopes were very high for the results but I couldn't make it. My score was 65.5 /100 and the cutoff for General was 67.5 !! Exactly.. It hurts when you fail with this margin . But then It was my first attempt. "Its Ok.. No worries...Better luck next time.. Oh wait !! What's that ? Cutoff for SC/ST is 47.5/100? Really ? A clear cut difference of 20 Marx ? WT* ?"
It means that a Candidate scoring 47.5 marx is more suitable for a post than a Candidate scoring 65.5 just because he/she belongs to a "Backward Caste" !! *slow claps*

After SBI Clerk 2016, it was now SBI PO 2016. Fortunately, this time, I passed the prelims. The cutoff for General was 47.5 and that for SC/ST around 38 (Not Surprising this time ) and I got 52.5. But Again, I failed to qualify the mains exam. I got 63.5 , Cutoff for General was 70 and that for Backward was 60.
I would have got a job till now if i would have been from a Backward Caste !! But I'm very grateful that I'm not because I rather prefer to get a job that I "Deserve" than to get a job just because I'm "Reserved".

I dont know and perhaps can't even imagine what attrocities Backward caste people had to went through decades and centuries ago but what I do know is Situations have Changed now and Change demands Change In Everything !!
I dont say that Casteism pervails only because Reservation is there but Reservation definately is the "root" cause why it is not being eradicated to the fullest . Reservation is being used by Politicians for their "Vote Bank" politics. They play their "Dalit Cards" to lure people into voting them.

I'm not a Casteist, I AM STRONGLY against CASTESIM, infact I'm Strongly against any kind of DISCRIMINATION prevailing in the society. But if Backward Caste people  themselves are satisfied  calling them "Dalits" just to avail Benefits of Reservation, then calling a Dalit, a Dalit, is just same as calling a teacher, a teacher and there's nothing Casteist  in this and no one should be Offended with that  !! But no ! Availing Reservations is their Right but they are EQUAL !!

Go on Hypocrites !! Well Done !

Ps: I'm still giving exams and waiting for my "lucky day" to come .

Indians and Sports

After Sakshi Malik and PV Sindhu earned medals in the Olympics, I've been hearing news of various monetary as well as non monetary rewards that are being conferred upon them by various state govts as well as central govt.
No doubt, no amount can equalise the pride they have brought to India in this year's olympics but Isn't giving rewards to just WINNING athletes fair to the ones who Couldn't ?Ain't they worth any Reward ?
With the Facilities for sportsmen (other than Men cricketers ofcourse) that we witness today in India, Isn't qualifying for olympics itself a Great Achievement for Indian Atheltes ?
Along with giving away "Huge" prices to just Winning Athletes, Shouldn't some amount be "invested" in providing proper training and facilities in every sport too ?
I've seen performances of Many Indian Athletes competing in this year's Olympics at Rio.One can easily observe that Indians don't lack talent:
  • PV sindhu won India its first ever Silver medal in Badminton at the mere age of 21.
  • Sakshi Malik became the first female wrestler to earn a medal at Olympics.
  • The first ever Indian gymnast, Dipa Karmakar, finished 4th in her maiden Olympics, showing the glimpse of potential that lies within her.
  • Abhinav Bindra missed a medal with a whisker.
  • Srikanth Kidambi showed a world class game in badminton and the potential to be a Medal Winner.
  • The Archers like Atanu Das, Bombayala Devi , Dipika Kumari have performend outstandingly well before loosing to pressure to perform good !!
  • Lalita Babar finished 10th in the 3000m steeplechase which doesn't sound good as good as a big achievement it is for an Indian Athlete !
  • Aditi Ashok, represented India in Golf which is widely considered an European Sport, and was in winning race till the finals !
  • Indian Hockey teams, both men and women, achieved respective feats after 36 years !!
  • And the exceptional performance came from Manish Singh in 20 Km men's race walk, who finished 13th leaving behind an Olympic Record Holder.

And the list goes on...

What is more interesting is that many of the top performers like "PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Srikanth Kidambi, Dipa Karmakar, Atanu Das, Lalita Babar etc, played in their "Maiden" Olympics.
The thing is why inspite of having talent, we lag behind in Medal Count. Why always athletes from European Counteries amd Countries like China, japan, outperform us ?
It doesn't need an expert to conclude that the top medal winner countries like USA, Great Britain, China ,Russia etc "Invest" in their athletes.
As per the statistics I found on internet, the cost per athlete that Indian govt spends on its Athletes per day is negligible as compared to the cost that these countries spend in their athletes.
I read an article in "The Tribune", and they pointed out an observation of the categories of people opting for various sports.
It mentioned that most of our athletes come from poor financial backgrounds. Manish Singh, who finished 13th in the Men's Race walk comes from a family which is facing " critical" financial crisis. (Inspite of it, he performed exceptionally well).
The people of "Elite" classes shy away from sports other than "Cricket". It shows the mentality of our society towards opting sports as career.
Infact I, as a child, was so much passionate about Basketball (I still am) . Even all the Sports teachers I've met so far have always praised me of playing it well according to my age and experience. There was a time, when my parents asked me of my will to go ahead with Basketball (I'm blessed to have such an open minded parents). That was the day when "Being an Indian" Stopped me from opting a "Sport" (that too Basketball) as career as their is no secured future of a sportsman (Or i must say "sportswoman") here in India and like many other middle class Indians, I also ended up being just " another engineer".
So, its not that India lacks Athletes or  Indian Athletes are Inferior to athletes of other countries, its just that they dont get the exposure to facilities and incentives that other countries provide to their athletes.
Had there been such facilities in India, God Knows how many Usian Bolts, Michael Phelps etc India would have produced !!

Storms and Sunshine

Hence again, Felt like writing something after a long time.
Hope it'll be of a little motivation to people who get demoralize on facing difficulties of life:
I'll call this one "Storms and Sunshine":
Good times and Bad times are two sides of a coin called LIFE,
When the one is up, another is waiting to get High.
HE tosses this coin to make us Understand,
That no situation is permanent, whether it be the difficulties of life or the Happiness at Hand.
Faith in "storms" and gratitude in "sunshine" is what defines a human,
Getting obsessed with a situation is never the Solution.
HE accounts for everything that is Happening to you,
Just Know if Bad times are here, Good times are also due.
Confront every situation with a Positive Attitude,
As they say, your Attitude is what which eventually defines your ALTITUDE.

Caste Based Reservation : Coping With Caste Discrimination or Encouraging it ?

After so many days, a recent news on JAAT AGITATION in Haryana pushed me to write my views on RESERVATION or I should better mention CASTE BASED RESERVATION .

There were times in India when people belonging to lower and backward castes were suppressed and (very) ill treated by the upper classes of society. There were times when they were deprived even of their basic rights.  There were times, when if you were a person belonging to a backward community,  you were literally an "untouchable" and thus were subjected to inhuman treatment.

Those were the times when any number of facilities given to those backward classes were not enough to compensate their sufferrings. So, our leaders introduced Reservation System for their upliftment owing to which, the condition of the backward classes improved a lot over the time.

But unfortunately, there are still  some places in India, where practice of untouchability is still carried out. If we try to find the basic reason for the ill treatment of backward classes(wherever it exists), it's not hard to reach on the conclusion that  they are treated as such merely because of the TAGS of their CASTES and not because of the WORK they do !!

And what Reservation system is actually doing is making the situation worse! It is officially tagging and highlighting people with their Backward categories, i.e, people are officially given Discretion and rights on the basis of their castes. By giving special benefits to the backward classes, it is being proven that they are actually inferior to so called general people and logically, here lies the violation of RIGHT TO EQUALITY !

Moreover ,there are many people belonging to backward classes who don't actually need these special provisions but are availing them because they belong to a Backward class. And then, on the other side, there are people who actually need these provisions but
are deprived of them because they belong to an upper caste ! Where are their "special benefits" ? Is caste, a correct base for providing reservations? Ain't providing special benefits to the whole community, for the upliftment of only a fraction of people of that community, unjustice to the downtrodden people of other communities ?

After all this, why would an under- priviliged general candidate not discriminate with a well facilitated backward category candidate when he see him enjoying the benefits that he doesn't even need !
So, the Reservation System, which was originally introduced to eliminate caste discrimination, is, ironically, "encouraging" it !

And owing to this Great Reservation System, people are protesting to be Called BACKWARD and this can only happen in India where Reserved ones get jobs rather than the Deserving ones !!
Then we Complain about our Country, for not being DEVELOPED !!
